MEET THE TEAM

Joe Smith

CEO/Principal

With over 15 years in the construction industry Joe has operated as both GC and subcontractor for commercial construction.  With a unique understanding of team management Joe has a critical eye for detail and a passion for getting it right.  He has hands on experience with all phases of construction from conceptual budgeting, pre-construction, construction management and project close-out.  Joe served in the US Navy during Desert Shield/Desert Storm and studied Business Management and Finance at Old Dominion University.  He holds an unlimited North Carolina General Contractors License.

Mark Gramling

COO/Principal

Mark has over 30 years’ experience in land development and construction. He grew up in Pennsylvania, graduated cum laude from Penn State with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is a licensed General Contractor in North Carolina. Mark was responsible for the site construction of the Brier Creek shopping complex, Cardinal Gibbons High School, early phases of Cisco’s campus and many other residential and commercial projects. When Portrait Homes moved a division to the Raleigh area in 2001, he “kicked off” and developed the first five residential projects built in the area in a two-year period.

Whether it’s working on land acquisition to entitlement, working with contractors, handling contractual and business issues, government officials, he is one of only a few professionals that can take a project, or just an idea, from ground zero to the finished product.

Devin Steele

Business Development/Principal

Devin brings over fifteen years of project management experience constructing a variety of work from multi-family, medical and clinical research to Class-A office buildings and mid-rise urban apartments.  He has coordinated all phases of development and construction such as pro-forma development,  pre-con, design, engineering, requirements gathering, procurement, and scheduling, commissioning  and quality assurance.  His proactive management style anticipates needs and problems well ahead of the current construction phase.  Devin holds a BA in Urban Planning from the College of Charleston.

Tom Holden

Vertical Construction Director

In 1996, Tom Holden founded Alliance Construction Inc. which later became Alliance Building & Development, LLC. Tom oversaw daily operations of the company including sales, estimating, and management of superintendents. In 2002, Nick Brett joined Alliance serving as a Superintendent and later becoming lead Project Manager. New home budgets ranged from $300,000 to $2,000,000 with renovations and additions ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. Alliance performed on over 100 projects.

Since then, Tom has been involved in new and remodel home projects around the Triangle, and joined the TIMU team in 2016.

Sue Jones

Design/Selection Director

Sue Jones has been around construction and sales for most of her career. She spent time managing a national sales team at Cosentino, and now heads up the finish selection and packaging side of TIMU communities. She also started CustoMiser, which created the key platform that simplifies the way people buy TIMU homes.

Amanda Mathis

Project Coordinator

Amanda is responsible for all aspects of the construction process from initiation to completion. She works closely with our project managers to prepare bids, budgets, change orders and collects all subcontractor information and close out documents. Amanda studied at North Carolina State University and developed a passion for construction and its connection to people, families, and communities at large through her work in AmeriCorps. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, pure barre and all of life’s little adventures!
